Richland school was organized in 1962 when the schools of Essex and Grayridge combined to form Richland R-1 school. The student bodies of Essex and Grayridge were tasked with formulating the name and mascot for the consolidated school district and student body selected Richland for school name and Rebels for mascot.

Richland is a very rural district in southeast Missouri. Agriculture and textiles such as corn, soybeans, rice, milo and cotton are produced in our school district.
